Two Aspects of the Sabbath

Yellow Excavator

Job 42:2 ERV  “I know you can do everything. You make plans, and nothing can change or stop them.”

Recently here at Fairwood we had to rent a mini excavator to dig a ditch about a third of a mile long.  It was fun to sit in the cab and without much effort dig through the dirt and pull out the rocks that were in the way. Of course, there are bigger ditches and bigger rocks, and for them bigger equipment is needed, but for our ditch the mini excavator was irresistible and it did the job.

In creation and in life there are many forces that dwarf man’s efforts. We can quickly reach our limitations.  In God’s world, His ways and His plans are irresistible. Nothing is big enough to stop them.  One of the irresistible plans of God is His Sabbath: it is coming (or has come as you read this), and nothing can stop it. I love being tied to the irresistible plan of God.  So, if there were ditches or rocks in your life this past week that were bigger than you, let the power of the Sabbath be the dominant irresistible force in your life on this day of rest.

1John 1:3 ESV ”That which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.”

I believe that what makes the Sabbath so special is that God is drawing closer to us and we are experiencing a closer fellowship with Him. It is not just an empty force but an irresistible relationship of love with Him and His Son.  I trust that all of you experience that relationship this day, and also may we by faith send His irresistible love out to a needy world.
